what you won’t learn from my resume…

My name is Anikka Hanson and I am a theatre artist currently living in Toronto with my sister and our two cats!

Before the times of city living and theatre school, I called the Alberta prairies home. I grew up creating theatre in the wheat fields of the family farm. Amongst the tangles of canola I learned to craft stories, performing to the great blue sky and grasshoppers; a captive audience to woodshed my theatrical repertoire. It fostered what would become my artistic “why”. Connection and community through creation.

I credit this imagination to the women who helped raise me. Grandmothers that encouraged play, who sat patiently through my monologues and played all the other roles that were necessary to the story being told. I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without them, and I carry them with me in everything I do.

I now find myself working in much the same capacity in my professional life; albeit one theatre degree later and much more life experience under my belt. I am still however, working on new stories with community driven groups of people who are passionate about creating magic on stage.
